![]() Silver Shamrock, owned and operated by Irishman Conal Cochran (Dan O’Herlihy), creates novelty Halloween masks. Dan Challis (Tom Atkins) into a mysterious murder and its relation to the goings-on of the Silver Shamrock Novelties company. Halloween III is set in the week leading up to Halloween, and follows the investigation by Dr. Halloween III completely departs from the story of Michael Myers and Laurie Strode, following the plans of producers John Carpenter and Debra Hill who believed that the Halloween series could branch out to become an anthology series, with each subsequent entry presenting a new Halloween-set story. While the film suffers from a cheap look and some weak acting, the film’s biting social commentary, inventive gore scenes, and willingness to embrace its frankly wild scenario, make it more than worthy of checking out. It is strange not only for being the only entry in the Halloween series that isn’t a “slasher” film or about Michael Myers, but also for the way that it essentially attacks its very raison d’être: Halloween III: Season of the Witch is an attack on the commercialism of Halloween and the television driven consumerism the holiday has become in the late-twentieth and now early-twenty-first century. Not a "good" movie, but for an early 80's entry in the horror genre, this one is worth a look and is better than many, and is, at the very least, original.1982’s Halloween III: Season of the Witch is a strange yet enjoyable bit of horror entertainment. It's hard to take this movie seriously, there are so many over the top scenes and Cochran, the evil mastermind, is fun and absurd. Pretty repellent stuff, but the execution is somehow less offensive and pretty creepy and cheesy at the same time. The concept - planning to murder millions of innocent kids on Halloween to embrace an ancient festival of Samhain. The plot involves an old toy maker who is a sadist and wants to sacrifice millions of children on Halloween by creating evil masks which, when worn while watching a flashing commercial created by the evil company, will trigger a deadly reaction which causes death by melting, bugs, snakes and other gruesome deaths. Tom Atkins is always fun and, somewhat similar to Jamie Lee, made a career in the horror genre. However, the series went dormant for about 5 years after this odd film came out to mostly groans. ![]() It was a modest financial success too, taking in 14 million on a 2.5 million budget. Since then, it has grown in popularity and has minor cult movie status. However, moving on with a new story was a good idea, even if it was almost universally reviled upon its release. Halloween III has almost nothing to do with Michael Myers or the first 2 Halloween movies, other than a few jokey references to the original. The most unbelievable part of the film, actually, even more unbelievable than the Silver Shamrock plan to turn children's brains to much. Yet the movie is written such that all the women fall madly, deeply, quickly in love with them. The doctor in the film who goes to investigate the mask-making company is not a very attractive man, traditionally speaking. The movie is accidentally funny at times. This is supposed to be some kind of elaborate Druid sacrifice to the gods. ![]() A company called the Silver Shamrock has taken the nation by storm, but little do the parents know that when the children wear these masks and watch a commercial on Halloween, they will all die. Halloween III tells the story of a mask-making company that is trying to turn children's heads into mush. In fact, the only reason that the second film was about Michael Myers was because fans demanded a continuation of the original film. The reason is because John Carpenter wanted to make his Halloween films a serialized story that focused on a different horror tale in each film. Halloween III is the third film in the original saga, and it doesn't have Michael Myers in it.
